The Brief

CareersWales is the Welsh government agency for career advice, information and guidance. As part the new Curriculum for Wales, we were tasked with creating an educational resource in Minecraft which introduces young people to the world of work, and the skills and qualities required for careers in the real world.

The Build

We built a large Minecraft adventure world with recreations of some of Wales’ most recognisable landmarks. Cardiff’s Millennium Centre, Senedd and Royal Coal Exchange were built alongside Caernarfon Castle, Big Pit and the seaside town of Tenby. At each location, players can complete activities and minigames to learn more about career development and opportunities in Wales. The project was made available in both Welsh and English, and released as a free map on the Minecraft Marketplace, as well as a learning resource for Education Edition.

The Result

Our Minecraft worlds have been used in schools across Wales, and have also been downloaded over 7.2 million times through the Minecraft Marketplace. The campaign has also been awarded for the ‘Best Use of Technology’ by the Career Development Institute in the UK.
